We are excited to announce that Saint-Gobain is participating in the development of a new Product Category Rule (PCR) for Technical Ceramics with EPD International.
What is a PCR and Why It Matters
A Product Category Rule (PCR) is a set of specific guidelines that standardize how to assess and report the environmental impacts of products. It lays out the rules for conducting a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a critical tool for measuring a product's environmental footprint across its entire life cycle—from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. The development of this new PCR will enable manufacturers to create EPDs that are based on a common methodology, ensuring transparency, consistency, and credibility in environmental reporting.
Our Partnership with EPD International
EPD International is renowned for its leadership in the field of environmental product declarations. By partnering with them, we are aligning our PCR development with internationally recognized standards and existing PCR standard such as the PCR for Abrasive products. This collaboration guarantees that the new PCR will meet the highest levels of scientific rigor and transparency, further solidifying our commitment to sustainability.
The development process will involve industry experts and stakeholders, with a public consultation phase to gather input. Once completed, the PCR will provide companies with a framework for creating credible EPDs, promoting sustainability and transparency in the market.
